"Ayato?"
He doesn't move. For a moment, it's almost like he can't. The voice that had previously spoken his name rings in his ears, as he tries to get a grasp on the situation. It doesn't take long for him to process -- he tries to flee. Ayato pretends to not of heard the person behind him, but they know better.
Ayato swallows thickly. Dread and bitterness swallow him, as he wishes to be anywhere but here. With them.
For once, he feels like a coward. He can't find it within himself to turn around and face them. However, they have an entirely different stance on the situation, and immediately runs in front of him, blocking his path. Ayato darts his eyes to the ground, while stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"Hey."
He realizes that it's a weak response, but he doesn't know what else to say. He figures something among the lines of, "I'm sorry," or, "It was for your own good," might be fitting.
It's a hard task; but he manages to look up at them. Their expression mirrors his inner emotions. Furrowed eyebrows, puffy eyes, and quivering lips.
"I thought you," [First] struggles with getting out their words. They sniffle.
"I thought you were dead."
'Dead, huh?'
Ayato's eyelids are low, as is his head. He's shamefully unable to explain himself. It had been a long process over the past few months, a battle against his own stubborn pride. He came to terms with the fact that he was not only wrong, but his actions ended up hurting you as well.
"I think I might be." [1] he responds, his voice stark.
They appear unamused, "I can't tell if you're joking or not. If you are, it's not funny."
Ayato gnaws his lips some more.
The silence finally settles in like dust. [First]'s tears die down, and before long, they're only staring at one another. He's gritting his teeth. There's a conflict inside of him. A part of him wishes to spare himself of anymore pain and just storm off, while the other half wants to embrace them.
Even with his luck running low, it's not all gone. [First] speaks up again.
"I don't want anything from you but an explanation." They're serious -- he can tell.
For a moment, their voice softens. "... Please."
His mouth feels dry. Not a single word comes to mind, besides an abundance of cuss words.
"I'll probably sound like an idiot." he attempts to wiggle out of it. They cross their arms over their chest. Ayato gets the subtle message, and takes a deep breath.
"Shit was happening at Aogiri. I was making too many enemies, ambushes started appearing, and I... I was worried, alright? I thought you might get caught up in it. I thought that you would be killed, because of my dumb ass."
They stare at him, unblinkingly.
"You used to call me an idiot," they say. "But you're the true idiot."
"I won't deny it."
He can see the way their muscles relax, tension evaporating out of the once thick air. They smile, a smile that causes flutters to appear in his gut. 'I'm still in deep, I guess,' Ayato thinks. 'Fucking hell.'
"Don't think I've forgive you fully, Kirishima," they utter. "You're still an asshole."
He can't help but laugh. It's been such a long time, but it feels euphoric. Being near them, platonic or romantic, he didn't care. Their presence is what he has yearned for all along.
"But," they begin slowly, "I don't resent you either... in a way? It's odd. I wanted to, for a long time. Like, a really long time. I thought that it'd make me get over you, but I only felt guilty."
"Now that I know your reasoning - albeit dumb reasoning - I understand. But don't underestimate so much. I did beat you in an arm wrestling match like, what, four times in a row?"
"Che, don't bring that up." Ayato gently nudges them with his elbow, causing them to laugh.
Ayato's heart thumps faster.
"How can I not? You were so mad, it was hilarious!"
He relives the moment, recalling with much amusement how pissed off he was. He treasures those simple, domestic moments with [First], after all.
While they're laughing away, Ayato observes their features yet again. His eyes settle on their lips, an action that he had done many times in the past. [First] being the observant person they are quips an eyebrow at Ayato. He quickly looks back up at their eyes, only to be even more enthralled.
He's hesitant, but he slowly reaches out to cup their face. Their cheeks become warm under his touch.
"Can I?" he breathes, eyelids relaxing. They nod their head. He tilts his head, an action that they mirror, lips inching closer and closer.
And just like that, he found himself falling in love all over again.

He’s pissed.
There was something so agitating about you. It was something that made his teeth grind together and his vision go red, something that made his very core swell with anger. Was it how you had beaten him at every turn? Was it how he met defeat at your hands every single fucking time he fought you? Was it the inevitable feeling of worthlessness he felt whenever he lost? Maybe it was all of those nasty little factoids. But what irritated, frustrated, agitated him the most was the fact that you never spoke.
The first time, he had waltzed onto your feeding grounds, expecting you to be another arrogant ghoul who had gotten in over

He’s pissed.
Maybe it was the fact that he couldn’t beat you in a fight. Maybe it was the fact that you somehow destroyed him every time. Or maybe it was the fact that you never spoke to him, no matter how much he sneered at you and attempted to rile you up. The fuck were you? Every time he faced you, deep frustration boiled in his veins. That feeling of fury prompted him to attack you every time. It wasn’t until the second time he got his ass handed to him, that he was told that you were the only known ghoul who could possibly go toe-to-toe with Arima, the CCG’s death god.
Now, he was on the cold ground once again, as

Dark!Ayato Kirishima x Reader
The thin slivers of light shone on the glistening drops of blood.
He smirked. His red eyes stared down unmercilessly. The glint in them was an awful; he knew what he was doing.
Stop.
Your throat, sore from screaming, couldn't produce the necessary sounds needed to protest. It came out as a small whimper.
"What?" Ayato's smirk turned into a wide spread grin and he raised a brow. "You say something?"
His hand continued to claw at the wound in your stomach. The raw meat of your flesh stung, the musty air of the building you two were in making it worse. You grit your teeth. A few more tears ran down your face. You closed your eyes, trying to

have I mentioned that
I love ayato kirishima
I have? a million times at that? ok
current aesthetic: ending stories with reader being kissed
anywayssssssssss I wanted to write a reunion fic with ayato and HERE IT IS
basically if you're like "wh a t" ayato and reader were in a relationship but ayato's like "shit's goin down, gotta protect the bae by LEAVING THEM"
yeah he was being an idiot, but he later realizes his mistake
however since I'm not in an angsty mood I made the ending happy u v u
[1] ayato basically means that without reader he feels like he's dead bc bae depravation (that or something deeper than what my tired brain can imagine)
I don't own you, or Tokyo Ghoul.
