Why did you feel guilty? Was it because of the lack of effort on your part - or something else? You figured that it was because you couldn't provide something, for someone. A clam without a pearl, after all the prying that took to open it.

"Hey," a silvery voice whispers, "you look upset. What is it?" Mikasa was alert. She had the eyes of a fox, never missing a single detail. Especially when it came to your wellbeing. Your muscles tense a bit, were you causing her turmoil or worry? She didn't need any of that. There was Eren, Armin, even the human race on her shoulders. The world, in the palm of her hands.

"It doesn't matter, please don't think about it." You murmur in return, the facade of self proclaimed protection sliding into place. It wasn't like you were entirely sure why you felt the need to carry all your burdens alone. The nagging sense of it however was enough to keep you from pouring out your soul. Mikasa, who was formally resting her head on your leg, helps herself up.

Her eyes that held no reflections of her inner thoughts stare at you. It seems that was her best weapon against you, just her staring. Mikasa was patient. You knew that. If it held some relation to you, she wouldn't mind waiting for decades. She was now propped up, and preparing for a silent battle.

You felt even more troubled. Overthinking, an awful habit of yours, was gnawing away at you. Even if the thoughts that polluted your formally polished mind seemed downright ridiculous - it added to your worry. Mikasa's eyes become lidded, and they slipped down to your now frowning lips. She mimics the action.

"(Name), stop thinking for a moment." You blink. What did she mean by that? With a bit of shuffling, she efficiently places herself in front of you, eyes bearing down. Her presence held the weight of elegance it normally did, but with a more chillingly serious touch.

"What do you have to say now? Don't think about it either. Blurt out whatever comes first." Mikasa speaks with not a bit of deadpan - showing she wasn't kidding. Your lips part to retaliate, anything that'd stray her away from the truth. Your mind goes blank.

"Do you think this is all one-sided?" Just like Mikasa requested - not much thought went into what you said. She stares at you, the seconds ticking torturously slow, never beginning to say a word. You squirm a bit under the mindset that she's annoyed by you finally speaking up. However, it seems like that was not the case.

"I'm not quite sure what you mean by that," she mumbles and leans back to give you a bit more space, "where did that come from?" Your breath hitches. It was too late to turn back now, so your troubles would pour from your mouth like a waterfall. Mikasa gingerly places her soft hand on top of yours, and awaits what it is you have to say.

"I don't know... it's odd in a sense. I get the fact you mustn't be entirely annoyed by me, since you still spend time with me. But I just- I come to you with all this crap I've got going on, and I don't feel like I do enough for you. Am I using you? Do you feel that way?" You don't want to keep looking at her furrowing eyebrows. You caused that. You caused the turmoil she must be feeling now. It was your fault she felt a heavier weight on her shoulders than before. Before your mind would demean itself any longer, you felt something.

The tingling sensation of lips pressing themselves against your right cheek. Mikasa's hands, that were cool to the touch, held your face in place. She didn't speak, but she didn't need to. Her actions translated themselves, her thoughts and feelings unravelling to you with physical affection. She pecks your left cheek, caressing the right. Her forehead moves against your own, personal space long forgotten.

"Stop. Stop thinking that way, all of it's a lie, (Name)." Her dulcet voice quietly says.

"You're not a problem to me. I want to give you whatever aid I can - provide you with security. You do the same for me. I want to return the favor, not just because it's right, but because I like you." It all seemed to make sense now. The final pieces falling into place, the finished puzzle picture revealing itself.

Mikasa never thought of you that way; in fact, it was the opposite. Your lips curve into the smile that felt forgotten.

"Honestly," You began, almost as if you were scolding yourself, "I'm sorry. My insecurities were kinda dumb." Mikasa releases her soft hold on your face, and moves back. She shakes her head, raven hair following her as well. It shines.

"If it's you, it's not dumb."

She meant it. She always did.
Sometimes I think about Mikasa and my only brilliant thought is 'nice' beCAUSE MIKASA IS WONDERFUL. Her birthday was yesterday, but I didn't realize until I was too tired to write. Sooo, I decided to wait until today to write her something B) even though it's a drabble thing.

I am slightly mad at myself bc I was petting this cat and I forgot something. I'm allergic to cats. So now I'm here, living it up with itchy eyes and sneezing. erngjken
