Tsukiyama wishes nothing more than to enjoy his next meal.

He always has had this point of view, and guesses that he'll continue to act like this. It was only natural. He never thinks too deep into it - whether he's oblivious or ignorant is unbeknownst to him. On nights when his heart throbs painfully, and chest feels as if it's imploding, he tries to fill himself with luxuries.

Eat. Again, and again. It has to fill that gap in his heart, if food won't; what will?

He's grateful as of late. A next meal is what he sees in them. The one with a scent incomparable to the ones he has come across so far. He takes it upon himself to befriend them, or at least, put up a faux impression of friendship.

He recalls the first words he ever spoke to them. Reading was always a good connection, and he has plenty of experience with books; having read many of them throughout his life.

"I see you're acquainted with Shakespeare's works." Is what he says, his voice smooth, without any signs of distress. The person he's talking to is clearly taken aback.

They regain themselves quickly, and smile at him. "Yes. I'm a big fan of his."

"As am I."

"Which one of his works is your favorite?" they question, tilting their head. Tsukiyama blinks, and thinks about it. 'Maybe I should play it safe,' he thinks.

"Romeo and Juliet."

They glance down at what they were reading, and raise an eyebrow.

"Interesting." they muse.

"How so?"

"Well, it's the one that I'm reading currently, correct? It's almost as if you're trying to impress me." they say, a small grin adorning their face.

"Am I wrong?"

Tsukiyama chuckles, amusement flickering in his violet hues.

"You're not too far off the mark." he admits. They nod their head, seemingly accepting this information. It wasn't everyday a gentleman-like male approaches them, and admits to wanting to impress them. Doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes too.

"I'm [Last] [First]," they greet with a friendly wave. "It's nice to meet you."

"Tsukiyama Shuu. Same goes to you."

Tsukiyama is joyful about his luck. He can't believe that it was so easy to befriend someone. He normally comes off as overly eccentric of flamboyant to most. At the same time, It wasn't exactly a real "friendship", more like "I-want-to-eat-you-but-I-need-to-gain-your-trust" friendship. Not too common, most likely.

He spends the next couple of weeks monitoring the relationship between him and [First]. He was given the opportunity to hang out with them a few more times, their discussions focusing in on different works of literature. Tsukiyama was beginning to grow a bit fond of them - but only a bit. Their more laid back personality made it easy for them to deal with Tsukiyama's personality.

It was like a perfect balance.

Tsukiyama finds himself doing something that he has never done:

Procrastinating, as he calls it. He almost shivers thinking about that one word. He tells himself daily, 'I'll eat them soon.' Never a definite date, a given place, or anything that he normally does. It's odd, but he tells himself he just wants to gain more of their trust.

Months pass.

Everyday, it's the same thing. 'Tomorrow. I'll invite them over and do it tomorrow.'

But he never does. It comes time for Tsukiyama to scold himself for getting so into a relationship with a human, aka, his next meal. Throughout the months of getting to know them; the "next meal" mindset begins to slip away. They were no longer another human.

They were [Last] [First]. A person, someone he was beginning to view as an enjoyable companion. It freaks him out to a certain extent. He's often spacing out, wondering what to do. This was going downhill, and fast.

"Hey, Tsukiyama." they call over, breaking him out of his thought. He doesn't respond.

"Shuu!" [First] using his first name is what broke him out of his stance. His heart accelerates. He blinks, and lazily moves over to look at them.

"Mm, what is it?"

"I was just asking why you've been acting so weird lately," they grumble. "Well, weirder than usual. I always figured it'd be kinda nice if you toned down a bit, but to hell with it, you're you. I'm me. I don't want your weird-ass self to change. So, tell me, what's wrong?"

His eyes widen, but only a fraction. Once again, Tsukiyama is taken aback by this [Last] [First]. He ever so rarely has had experiences with people being genuinely wondering about his well being.

It was a first. And he doesn't know how to handle it.

It seems like the first time that he has ever been at a lost for words. [First] frowns.

"If for some reason I'm bothering you, let me know. I'm serious. I like this friendship thing we've got going on, but if you don't feel that way, I don't want to annoy you or force you to-"

"No!" A word he ever so rarely uses slips from his mouth. His gentleman facade slips for a second, showing his true vulnerability. Caring for someone. Tsukiyama covers his mouth, and clears his throat.

"Excuse me," he gets up from the tablet that they were sitting at. "I'm feeling a bit unwell. Mind if we cut this evening short?"

Their expression is hard to get a read on. But if he were to guess, he figures they're feeling hurt.

He still can't tell, however. "Sure. I actually forgot to feed my dog, so..."

Tsukiyama gives a forced smile, "I'll see you later then."

Tsukiyama can only see the back of their head as they leave, not saying another word. He takes a deep breath, and tries to get his emotions straight.

It's all so confusing to him. Like a puzzle that seems to be put together, but the picture isn't as it should be. Was that his relationship with [First]? Was he only pretending that they were only a meal, or even that they were only a friend?

As he lies on his luxurious way-too-large bed, he stares up at the ceiling. Sleep seems to be only a sweet idea at this point. He thinks that it's such a familiar position to be in. How many nights did he lay here feeling lonely, and pretending that he wasn't?

And now that he found [First] - who he admits to not feel any bit of deserve to consume anymore - that loneliness was gone. For the months that their relationship was good, at least. Now, he wasn't so sure. He probably messed it up earlier that day.

He sighs, and rolls over on his bed. Tsukiyama unpleasantly accepts the fact that sleep will be a rarity tonight. His thoughts were all too overwhelming, not to mention the ever so present harsh beating of his heart. As time ticks on, his thoughts drift from many things. The time he met [First], that time he accidentally got stuck in a tree and [First] barreled over in laughter, and when [First] told them about taking apart in a Shrek play.

He smiles, but it fades away as he faces a certain reality.

All of his thoughts were about [First]. Each time, whether it was positive or not, he likes to think about them. He likes that cute smile of theirs, their habits. When he first noticed this, he guessed it was a form of platonic adoration.

But it isn't.

Tsukiyama has and always will feel confusion about them. They were such an oddity in his eyes. But there was a single fact that he now knew to be true:

He loves [Last] [First].

His entire attitude itself changes around them. Immediately, he wonders if he should reject these feelings of his. But he realizes that in the end, if he does, it'll only hurt them both. What once began as a way for him to receive a new meal has gone to him absolutely adoring them.

Tsukiyama fully accepts it. Relieving wasn't strong enough of a word to describe the sensation he feels after he began to understand his feelings. Even after that awkward incident from a few days ago, Tsukiyama refuses to give up hope. That's why, one day, he texts them.

Mon ami,

Please, come to the park this evening at 6:00 p.m. sharp. It's very important that you come! My apologies for this being on such short notice; but believe me when I say it's something that must be discussed person-to-person.

They never respond. Tsukiyama isn't all too fond of that fact, but he can only hope that they come. That entire day, he wastes no time preparing what it is he has to say to them. For the first time in forever, he feels jittery, unsure of himself even. But he loves it. All because of [First], he was experiencing these new emotions.

All because of his love for them.

When evening rolls around, he nervously looks to see if they're here yet.

His eyes light up when he sees their familiar face. He waves them over, a giant smile on his face. [First] cautiously approaches him, eyeing his incredibly formal appearance. That, and the flowers that he was holding in his hands. They open their mouth, only to be cut of by an ecstatic Tsukiyama.

"I'm so glad that you're here, mon cher. Please, have a seat." he says, whilst gesturing towards the bench. He internally curses himself for not setting up a private getup, but he couldn't do that on such short notice. [First] doesn't protest, and sits down.

"So... what's with all of, you know, this?" they motion to Tsukiyama's suit. He smiles down at them, and hands them the flowers.

"As of late," he begins, "You've noticed my abnormal behavior. I wasn't all too sure of what was happening, myself. I tried blaming you, then myself, and that process repeated for a few troublesome hours."

They snort, but don't interject.

Tsukiyama glances to the side, "I finally came to a conclusion. It was hard to come to terms with, mon cher. But I did. Whether or not you feel the same won't is fine, I've decided. Your happiness is all I desire, dearest."

"T-Tsukiyama, I-"

"I love you."

They stare up at him. Their eyes wide, lips agape, and cheeks burning. [First]'s first bunch up by their side, and they glance down at their lap.

"This is uh, isn't all that surprising, I guess." they awkwardly laugh, and scratch the back of their neck. Tsukiyama waits silently for them to continue.

They grin sheepishly, "I did catch you staring at me sometimes. I wasn't sure to be flattered, or creeped out."

Tsukiyama can't help but laugh, feeling embarrassment himself.

"But if I were to make a decision here, which I probably should, I'd say this. Well, er, I don't 'love' you per se, but," they inhale sharply, and Tsukiyama slinks a few inches closer to them. "I do like you. A lot. I don't know? This is weird. Everything is weird. You're weird."

They burry their head in between their hands, and groan.

"I did get stuck in a tree, so I see your point, mon cher." he adds, in a weak attempt to lighten the mood. They fondly recall the memory.

"Yeah, you're right," they say. "I guess I'm weird too, though. Cause you know what? I wouldn't mind dating you. In fact, it sounds pretty nice." they manage to admit. They bring their head out of their hands, only to see Tsukiyama practically begin to tear up. He sniffles a few times.

"I would like that too, mon cher."

"Good- oh, and wait. The hell does mon cher mean? I'm too lazy to whip out my Google Translate, so you better explain."

Tsukiyama gives a mischievous look. "Maybe our first date could be me teaching you French." To which they huff.

"Nah, I was thinking something more like a movie night. Only if you buy me french fries though."

"It's a deal then."

He no longer would toss and turn at night, feeling a hole that food could never fill.

No, not at all, now that he was with them.
first tsukiyama shuu x reader!! wooo
tsukiyama is one of my fave characters from tokyo ghoul
and no, not the horrid anime version of him //shivers//
it really bothers me when people dislike him just bc of his crappy anime version
like he's such a cool and complex character
here I'll even link you to to an explanation of his behavior
okay that is all for my tsukiyama rant

oh and this takes place before kaneki if you're wondering
mainly bc I feel like kaneki wasn't his first victim
this kinda got cheesy but like
I didn't want it to get too cheesy
so I didn't have reader go "ily"
instead they're like "you're chill, I'm chill, let's eat fries together" bc they don't know he's a ghoul
please alert me of there are any mistakes my tired eyes probably missed
I did revise it but no matter how many times I do I still miss some tense changes and stuff
OKAY this description is getting way too long dam

I don't own you, or Tokyo Ghoul.

It was great ! I'm kinda disappointed that he didn't tell the reader that he was a ghoul.
Also I was a bit confused at the use of the plural to describe the reader, but it didn't bother the reading so it doesn't matter.

I really liked your interpretation on his loneliness and the hasardous behaior he adopted when he realized his growing feelings. Sounds pretty realistic and coherent to me !

All I can do now is wait for more ! :D

ah, thank you very much! I'm glad that it was realistic -- that was what I was shooting for.
and I used "they" pronouns because I want to keep it gender neutral. c:
